This is the way many fortune 500 companies, non profits & even government agencies do business, and the same principles will work for smaller companies also.
Consider working with another company that has a non competing product, but the same customer demographic.
For instance, if you make barbeque bricks you would partner with a barbeque maker and endorse each other's product to each other's customer base, resulting in reaching a larger audience.
If you make virus software, you may consider partnering with a computer manufacturer, or even another software vendor who has a product in a different area.
If you get creative, you can generate lots of extra cash flow & build your customer list exponentially by using this very effective technique.
The fact that your are recommending any product to your customers will generate more sales, because your customers trust you.
The same with the company you work with... when they recommend your product to their customer base, many of their clients will purchase your product, simply because of your partner companie's endorsement.
Of course, I highly recommend you try & like each others product before you do a cross promotion!
Why would another company consider doing this?
They will sell more of their product to your clients and you will sell more of your product to their clients & you both pay each other a percentage of the sales of each others product.
This is a major win=win scenario!
Consider 'bundled' offers or even co-branding your product with theirs. There really isn't any limit to the possibilities.
Even if you don't have a customer base yet, the partner you choose will still be motivated, depending on the commission you pay them, to retail your product to their client base.
